It's important to keep your body warm and dry when you go skiing. You have to be prepared for different types of weather on cold winter days - layering is the secret if you want to stay comfortable on the slopes. Make sure you always buy clothing that fits properly. Here are a few suggestions:

Thermal underwear. This is your first layer of clothing - the undergarments you purchase should soak up sweat and consist of material that won't cause skin irritation. Wearing long underwear is important to keep you warm and dry.

Socks. Look for mixed fibre socks that will keep your feet warm and stop blisters from forming. If you really want to avoid getting cold feet, wear a thinner pair of socks underneath your ski socks for an extra layer of protection. Smooth them down as much as possible to avoid blistering.

Fleece. Wearing a fleece top will provide a good layer of insulation and allow moisture to escape. This will keep your skin dry, and your body warm and comfortable.

Jacket. This is the last layer you'll need. Make sure you buy a windproof jacket or a ski suit before hitting the slopes.

Other items you may need include helmets and hats, a masque to protect your face, gloves and mittens, and sunglasses.
